Despite many families struggling to find affordable childcare, more than 60% of childcare workers report struggling to cover basics like food and utilities. This reveals the exploitative nature of the industry and the need for real advocacy and policy changes to support access to childcare.Read Upwardly Global’s new policy brief, “How To Advance Immigrant Women’s Access to Childcare,” to read our administrative and legislative action recommendations to the White House Task Force on New Americans for ensuring access to affordable childcare that doesn’t exploit those who provide it. https://lnkd.in/gZdkWKpG#AffordableChildcare #ChildcareStruggles #ChildcareWorkers #BasicNeeds #ExploitativeIndustry #AdvocacyNeeded #PolicyChanges #AccessToChildcare #ImmigrantWomen #AdministrativeAction #LegislativeAction #UpwardlyGlobal #PolicyBrief

Did you know?Policies that support economic stability and mobility play a key role in preventing child abuse and neglect. These policies, like childcare subsidies, help reduce financial stress for families. In the U.S., childcare subsidies are provided to low-income families to offset the high cost of childcare. Our research finds that when states make it easier for families to qualify for and maintain childcare subsidies, child abuse and neglect are reduced.Visit PCA America's website to read our research on the important role of economic supports as a child maltreatment prevention strategy. https://lnkd.in/gGg4b6yS#ChildcareSubsidies #PreventionIsPossible #ChildWellbeing #PrimaryPreventionEcosystem #HealthyCommunities #ThrivingFamilies

📣 Groundbreaking News from Sweden: Grandparents Now Paid for Childcare! In a progressive move, Sweden has introduced a new law that allows grandparents to receive paid parental leave. This innovative policy means grandparents will be compensated while taking care of their grandchildren for up to three months during the child’s first year.As a father of two 👧👧 who is lucky enough to split my childcare between a local nursery and grandparents, I think this is fantastic! It takes a village! What are your thoughts on this progressive policy? Do you think it could serve as a model for other countries, including the UK, to adopt similar family-friendly measures?#Childcare #FamilyPolicy #Sweden

Today, families across England start to benefit from the expansion of the funded childcare offer. That is, unless you're one of the excluded single parents. While couples can benefit from the free childcare hours if one is working and the other is unemployed due to disability or being a full time carer. Single parents cannot. This policy is the epitome of single parent discrimination:✔️A policy designed without any consideration of the existence of single parent families. ✔️A policy which targets single parents who face multiple discriminations. ✔️A policy which disproportionately impacts single parents on a low income. These aren't coincidences. This is exactly how single parentism thrives in the UK.
